Why I Built Penny

I Did Not Want To Find Out In March.

For years, the real financial picture of a project showed up at the end, when it was too late to do anything about it. Retainers drifted. Markup got applied inconsistently. A vendor got paid twice and nobody noticed for a quarter. I am a former lawyer who runs a design firm. I can read a spreadsheet. I just do not have time to read all of them every week.

Penny reads them for me. She tells me which projects are healthy, which are drifting, and which number she could not verify. She does not touch the books, pay anyone, or guess. She gives me the Monday-morning version of the truth so the quarterly review is a formality, not a fire drill.

What does Penny need to begin?

A project name or ID, report period or as-of date, structured CSV or Excel export, reporting currency, output audience, and field definitions when headings are ambiguous.

Does Penny connect live to my financial systems?

Not by default. Penny version 1 works from supported structured exports. Any live connector must be separately configured and verified before it is described as available.

Does Penny replace my accountant or bookkeeper?

No. Penny organizes and reviews supplied project-financial evidence. She does not provide accounting, tax, or legal advice or certify accounting completeness.

Can Penny send an invoice or pay a vendor?

No. Penny can surface a possible billing or payment question for human verification, but she does not send invoices, approve or initiate payments, or modify source records.

What happens when data is missing?

Penny reports the conclusion as not determinable, identifies the missing evidence, and avoids treating absence as zero unless source completeness proves zero activity.

What support is included?
